Join us at Grassholme Observatory for a special afternoon celebrating one of nature’s most captivating astronomical events – a partial solar eclipse.
Although the eclipse itself will be low in the western sky, you’ll experience the event safely and expertly guided by our team of astronomers, while enjoying a fascinating programme of activities designed for all ages.

Observe the Sun safely through our solar telescope.
The Science of Eclipses
Discover how solar eclipses occur, why they don’t happen every month, and what makes this event so special. Our engaging presentation will explain the celestial mechanics behind these remarkable alignments and explore some of history’s most famous eclipses.
Complimentary Eclipse Glasses
Every guest will receive a pair of ISO-certified eclipse glasses, allowing you to observe the eclipse safely (weather permitting) and keep them as a souvenir of this special occasion.

Dark Sky Astronomy and Stargazing
Tonight’s event promises to be a spectacular evening of astronomy. The event will begin with a personal welcome from our astronomy team After the welcome, they will escort you into our new state-of-the-art classroom, which has a cosy feel, and high definition (HD) projection system. They will take you on a whistle-stop tour of the Universe. Following this, we will split into groups and, weather depending, start observing the sky, with our array of telescopes and cameras.
