On these warm summer nights we are treated to a planetary delight as these 2 celestial heavyweights line up for our telescopes.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and could swallow 1300 earths. This gas giant planet is a turbulent environment as it spins on its axis once every 9.5 hours – this makes it the fastest rotating object in our solar system. Due to this exceptional rotational period Jupiter has a very turbulent surface with high speed winds whipping its surface up into a visual drama on a cosmic scale. With bands and belts transition regions and big red spots, Jupiter has it all, and we have the kit to bring it alive for you all. Come and see this amazing planet for yourself!

Next is by far most peoples favourite – I mean if you haven’t looked through a telescope at Saturn then don’t miss this opportunity to do so. With its glorious ring system dazzling the observer a veritable observing feast!

On summer evenings, in early August, we may even glimpse other atmospheric phenomena, such as noctilucent or night shining clouds. During this time of year, our northerly latitude prohibits the true dark skies, as a twilight gives the sky a beautiful hue.
